Dear friends
Many of us feel a pang of guilt when they hear the words “outreach” or “evangelism”, because we don’t have time to fit it into our already busy schedules. With demanding jobs and growing families, few of us have spare time lying around, just waiting to be spent on outreach. Sharing the gospel with those who don’t yet believe is important enough that we should make time for it, even if it means cutting other activities from our busy schedules, but in reality outreach doesn’t have to be an item we add to our overcrowded schedules; it can be a simple change in the way we do what we are already doing.
We can become more effective at reaching non-believers with the gospel by starting to do new things we haven’t done before or by changing the way we do old things we’ve been doing all along. The simple change we need to make is to no longer do what we are already doing alone! If we’re already hanging out with friends we should make sure that some of those are non-believing friends. If we’re already exercising we should invite non-believing friends to exercise with us. If we’re already going to the movies we should invite non-believing friend to come with us. If we’re already reading we should invite non-believing friends to read with us. If we’re already going to a church service we should invite non-believing friends to go with us.
The month of May will be an outreach month where you will have ample opportunity to invite friends to exciting church events:
- On Sunday 8 May Trevor Gething will be sharing the Word during our mother’s day family service and all the kids will be performing songs. This is a great opportunity to invite families. If the parents don’t want to come, tell them to take the Sunday morning off while you take their kids to church.
- On Sunday 15 May Pastor Sias le Roux will be visiting us form Stellenbosch and sharing the Word. Those who know him will expect the Holy Spirit to move and touch people’s lives in all kinds of unexpected ways.
- On Sunday 22 May Andre de Villiers will be ministering to us through some of his well-known songs.
As I’ve shared before, reaching someone with the gospel is as easy as Invest, Invite, Involve:
- Invest in their lives by building relationship and praying for them.
- Invite them to a church event or to Christ.
- Involve them in discipleship through small group.
Let’s make outreach part of our everyday lives by making sure we don’t do what we’re already doing alone, and let’s trust God this month to do for our non-believing friends what He’s done for us!
Yours in Christ
Hennie
